In Gratitude...
We would like to express our deepest appreciation for your interest in Nitty Gritty. Our mission is to cultivate a brand that brings food with a purpose to our community. We are currently a start up company, and are seeking investors who are generous, and have a passion for bringing access to healthy food and civic engagement to a community that has been deprived of this necessity for more than a decade.
More specifically, In Oakland there is a shortage of grocery stores and access to healthy food in urban communities. Oakland has historically been called “A food desert”.
“It’s easier to stay drunk than it is to eat”- North Oakland Resident
“In the flatlands, where the median household income is $32,000, there’s an average of one supermarket per 93,126 residents, according to a 2009 report by the Hope Collaborative, an Oakland-based organization focusing on environmental health and food policy issues. The same report found that in the Oakland Hills, where the median household income is over $58,000, there’s an average of one supermarket per 13,778 residents. -https://oaklandnorth.net/few-food-choices/
Nitty Gritty is not a grocery store, and likely never will be. However, we are cultivating a platform in the food industry. We want to use our business as a catalyst of change. If you would like to learn more about how we plan to use our entrepreneurial pursuits to impact our community, please contact us.
